Spinning / Methods of Yarn preparation

The process of making yarns from fibers is called Spinning. There are several methods of Spinning : Such as
  1. For Staple Yarn.
    • Ring Spinning
    • Open end / Rotor Spinning
    • Friction Spinning.
    • Self twist Spinning
    • Electrostatic Spinning
    • Vortex Spinning
    • Air-Jet Spinning
    • Twist-less Spinning.
  2. For Filament Yarn.
    • Wet Spinning
    • Dry Spinning
    • Melt Spinning
    • Bi-Component Spinning
    • Film Splitting.
  3. For Integrated Multi-Component Yarns:
    • Integrated Composite Spinning
    • Cover spun.
    • Selfil Yarn Spinning
    • Aero-dynamic Spinning.

Yarn Preparation

Yarn is made from fibers. Primitive people discovered that a succession of short fibers could be twisted into a continuous yarn. The direction of the twist may be observed by holding the yarn in a vertical position.

If the spirals conform to the direction of the slope of the central part of the letter 'S' the yarn has an S twist.

If the spirals conform to the direction of the slope of the central part of the letter 'Z' the yarn has Z twist.
